Changing History

Some of you probably have never been to a chiropractor. Even a larger number don't have a clue as to what a chiropractor actually does. Adjustments are given all over the world to people from all different walks of life. At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Boonton area and inside the walls of New Beginnings Chiropractic Wellness Center, I give adjustments for one reason and one reason only. To clear out the nerve system and allow the body the best opportunity to heal itself naturally. Are you with me so far. Hello, HELLO, is this thing on? Let me tell you a little story written by B.J. Palmer, the developer of Chiropractic.
It goes a little something like this: " A slip on the snowy sidewalk in the winter, is a small thing, that happens to millions. A fall from a ladder, in summer, is a small thing, that also happens to millions. The slip or fall produces a subluxation, the subluxation is a small thing. The subluxation produces pressure on a nerve, that pressure is a small thing. The pressure cuts off the flow of mental impulses, that decreased flowing is a small thing. That decreased flowing produces a diseased body and brain, that is a big thing to that man. Multiply that sick by a thousand, and you control the physical and mental welfare of a small city. Multiply that sick man by a million, and you shape the physical and mental destiny of a state. Multiply that man by two hundred million, and you forecast and prophesy the physical and mental status of a nation. So the slip or fall, the subluxation, pressure, flow of mental impulses, and disease are big enough to control the thots and actions of a nation..."!!
What's that? Oh, you think this is a bunch of nonsense?! Read the book entitled: Napoleon's Glands and Other Ventures in Biohistory, by Arno Karlen. When you are finished give me a call and tell me if I'm crazy, or if you GROSSLY under-estimated the affects that poorly functioning physiology can have on history.
In the meantime, come visit my new office still going by the name of Selimo Chiropractic within the office of New Beginnings Chiropractic Center and serving the Boonton area.

Hello!!! HELLO!! Is This Thing (Your Body) ON??!!

INNATE INTELLIGENCE

Just as we have a communication system, the telephone, which enables us to talk to someone any place in the United States within a few seconds, we also have a communication system within the body that the Innate Intelligence uses to coordinate and control the function of all our cells. It is called the nervous system, and it is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and millions upon millions of miles of fine wire (nerves), a thousand times thinner than the human hair, going to every organ, tissue, and cell. This communication system is a more sophisticated computer system than any ever designed and yet the brain is about the size of two fists held together. Man has always known about the importance of the nervous system and that any interference within it can cause malfunction and even death. At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, I specialize in analyzing this system for misalignments (subluxations) and correcting them.

Because of its importance, the nerve system is protected by bone. The skull protects the brain and the brain is protected by the vertebral column. When the bones of vertebral column become subluxated, they interfere with the function of the nervous system. As a result, the body will not function properly. My main objective, at Selimo Chiropractic serving the Parsippany area, is to introduce a force that your body can use to adjust the vertebrae back into their proper position, removing the interference off the nerve and allowing proper signals to flow once again so that each part of the body can begin to work properly. The body has capacity to heal itself and maintain itself in a state of health, but only within the limitations of its matter. So what are you waiting for? A medical endorsement? GET CHECKED NOW!!!!!

Do You Believe?!

Often you hear people say, "Oh, I believe in chiropractic care. However, the chiropractic principle itself is not a matter of belief.
If you believe....
-that the human body was meant to produce within itself every chemical and substance necessary to maintain life from that food
- that the human body was not meant to be sick but to enjoy a lifetime of health
- that the body when in optimum health has within itself the ability to repair and heal damaged or sick tissue.
- that the educated intelligence of all the brilliant minds in the world combined doesn't know as much about running the body as the innate intelligence placed within it.
Then you believe..
IN THE PRINCIPLE OF LIFE.
Chiropractic is founded upon the principle of life and is the only logical, rational approach to health. It is not a matter of belief, but of sound intelligent thinking. At Selimo Chiropractic, in the Parsippany area, I believe that chiropractic is not something you must believe or reject. Acceptance of the principles of life leaves no alternative but to accept chiropractic. I do not believe that chiropractic works, I know that it does, just as a farmer who plants a field of corn in the spring knows that he will harvest a field of corn in the summer. The farmer has an understanding of the laws of nature and the principles of life which allow him to know that given the proper elements, he will reap corn. He also knows that even if he believed other things would grow where he planted corn, his belief would not make it so. If he did not

Now That IS The Question!

In examining the body we have come to the realization that it is a very fantastic organism. It can make living tissue out of the food that we eat for breakfast and adrenaline, insulin, cortisone, and thousands of other chemical substances out of the food we eat for lunch. We conclude that there is an organizing, coordinating principle within the body, which we refer to as the "INNATE INTELLIGENCE" of the body. Wherever we see organization, we acknowledge the existence of an intelligence. The local women's club, a large corporation, the government ( bad example) all demonstrate some level of organization and so all bespeak some intelligence.
The human body is the most organized structure in the world, 25-30 quadrillion cells all working together. It is, therefore reasonable to assume that there is an intelligence within the body. At Selimo Chiropractic, serving the Parsippany and Whippany area, it is known as "INNATE INTELLIGENCE". Innate intelligence is best defined as the principle of organization in all living organisms that results in the ability and striving of a living organism to organize and reorganize its physiology in order to adapt and survive in an ever-changing environment. The internal, inborn processes of living beings that are responsible for the preservation and continuation of life by the ability to respond and adapt to its external environment.
INNATE INTELLIGENCE is what you are born knowing rather than what you learn after you are born. There is nothing you must do to teach your body to work. A little baby knows nothing about his or her kidneys and yet they work as well as the greatest kidney specialist in the world, who knows every bit of information ever published on the kidneys.
At Selimo Chiropractic, in the Parsippany area, it is my strong belief that we can be thankful we have an INNATE INTELLIGENCE that is charged with the responsibility of running our bodies and we need not rely upon our educated, forgetful minds. It is this INNATE INTELLIGENCE which runs our bodies from the time we are conceived until the time we die. It is perfect and incapable of making an error. Why then do our bodies break down and work less perfectly? Ahhhhhhh!!! Now that IS the question.

Understanding Your Symptoms

No one enjoys feeling poorly, or suffering and experiencing pain. Symptoms are unpleasant. We have been taught to view them as bad and we seek ways to alleviate them as quickly as possible, but it is often without regard for our health or without understanding their role in our health and well-being.
At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, I believe that it is important that we understand that pain and symptoms are not always bad. Our body was designed with an intricate warning system in order to make us aware of injury, harm and danger. Pain tells us to avoid hot stoves, remove the pebble in our shoe and in a hundred other ways, how to prevent injury and harm. To cover up pain in these types of situations is not only unwise, it is dangerous and often invites further serious injury. It is like having an expensive fire alarm system in your home and disconnecting it before going to sleep so that it does not awaken you in the middle of the night. That is its job! Further, symptoms can possibly be an indication that the body is doing its job perfectly. Eating tainted food could precipitate a bout of vomiting and diarrhea. While they are admittedly two of the most unpleasant symptoms, they could save your life as they did rid your body of unwanted toxins. Trying to prevent these symptoms could be harmful to your body.
We also must understand that symptoms may be indicative of a serious medical problem that requires immediate attention by a physician or some other provider of therapeutic measures. To make this determination necessitates extensive years of study and training. At Selimo Chiropractic, serving the Parsippany area, I have chosen not to pursue that education or provide that service. Diagnosis, the art of finding the underlying cause of symptoms, is not part of the practice of the chiropractor.
Finally, you must understand that the service I provide as a chiropractor is not related to symptoms. This is what makes chiropractic different from therapeutic services like medicine. The vertebral subluxation, a misalignment which interferes with the proper functioning of the nervous system generally does not have symptoms. That is what makes it so dangerous. It can occur in anyone and gives no indication of its presence. But when the spine is subluxated, the entire body is being deprived of its ability to function at its fullest potential. That is a serious matter. To wait until symptoms appear, as a result of perhaps months or years of improper function, is not the best approach to maintaining one's health.
While chiropractic is not a treatment for symptoms or their cause, the person receiving chiropractic must have an understanding of the role of pain and symptoms so that he or she can make intelligent decisions regarding matters of health. I will be happy to explain to you further my role in your health and well-being so that you can be a better informed person and a better expression of life and health.

Life Is All About CHOICE!!!!

Treatment is defined as anything done for a patient to alleviate a symptom or disease. Adjustment, on the other hand, means to bring into right relationship. This is what's being done in chiropractic: bringing vertebrae into right relationship. It is interesting that in addition to bringing two vertebrae into right relationship, that is, correcting a subluxation, what we are really doing is bringing into right relationship the innate intelligence of the body and the physical material, the matter of the body. The matter is not an expression of the intelligence as it was intended. The adjustment brings back into a right relationship the material and the non material parts of the body.
Let's take a closer look at the meaning of the term, innate intelligence. I will use an analogy to bring out a better understanding of this philosophically sound concept. When you jump off a bridge, whether you are fat, skinny, good, bad, beautiful, or ugly, whether you hate children and kick dogs or are the sweetest, most loving person in the world, you will hit the water at the same rate of speed. That is an impersonal, natural law or principle. Similarly, at Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area, I recognize that the innate intelligence of the body is an impersonal principle. It is not a small voice whispering in your ear telling you the correct answer on a test for which you never studied. It does not make decisions for you. It is not the Id, Ego, Soul or any other psychological, religious or mystical term. It is a principle of organization that causes matter to behave in a certain manner, that is, to adapt to its environment. It is the same in a one celled amoebae and in a 280 - pound middle linebacker. The only difference is the amount and the quality of the matter in which it works.
At Selimo Chiropractic, serving the Parsippany and Whippany areas, performing specific chiropractic adjustments for the purpose of helping the innate intelligence of the body to better express itself is the best thing anyone can do in the physical realm. Correcting as many subluxations as I can, in as many people as I can, for as long as I can, is ultimately the chiropractic objective in my office. When this occurs, structure is restored to the human body which in turn restores function back to every organ cell and gland in the body. As a result, people live a much better quality of life with less reliance on medication.
The choice is yours. I lifetime of outside in approaches with little to no success and a diminished quality of life and possibly becoming a pharmaceutical pin cushion in your "golden years", or a lifetime of enhanced human function resulting in a lifetime of "enhanced human potential"! Are "Symptoms" Important?

While symptoms are not something that we at Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area treats, they are a fact of life and health. Their existence is real and an understanding of their role in health is necessary for the chiropractor and practice member.
A symptom has been described as an indication that the body is reaching the outer limits of its adaptive ability. That is a fairly good working definition. Clearly, when the body passes the outer limits of its adaptive ability, all symptoms cease. Death is the lack of adaptation. That is a pretty obvious conclusion. Not so clear and open to argument is the assumption that if the body is adapting perfectly it should never have any symptoms. And this last statement represents a common misconception that vertebral subluxation is the cause of all sickness and disease and if the body were free of vertebral subluxation, it would never get sick.
Symptoms arise from the inability of the body to adapt to external invasive forces. A good nerve supply guarantees nothing more than the fact that the individual will be able to adapt a little better. But there are still limitations of matter that come into play regardless of the presence or absence of subluxation. Under normal circumstances the body can adapt to external invasive forces and symptoms will not occur. Unfortunately, we do not live under normal circumstances. The world is an imperfect place, consequently we are subject to abnormal external invasive forces. Stepping off a curb is a normal part of every day life. It causes no symptoms because the body is able to adapt. Jumping out of a three story window will move the body toward the outer limits of adaptability and cause symptoms (the pain of legs breaking).
Let me give you an example to drive the point home. The body was designed to be resistant to microorganisms in a natural and normal amount. Being free of nerve interference will enable the body to live in this environment with these viruses and never show symptoms. having someone sneeze or cough in your face and subject your respiratory tract to billions of viruses is not normal or natural. Even being free of vertebral subluxation, it may be more than the body can handle (limitations of matter). In this case symptoms will appear. Therefore, symptoms could occur because of an abnormal exposure to viruses, bacteria, toxins, poisons, etc. or because subluxation has weakened the individual to normal amounts in the environment. Of course, other factors could also weaken the individual, such as a genetic defect.
In concluding, it is very important to build health within the body. One of the most important ways to do this is to have your spine checked on a regular basis for vertebral subluxation. At Selimo Chiropractic in the Parsippany area I strongly believe this is important because having your nerve system clear will strengthen your immune function so that, unless you are exposed to billions of viruses at once, 9 times out 10 you won't get sick.

Body, "Heal Thyself " !!

Well here it is. The groundhog has come out and didn't see his shadow so now I guess there is only about 4 weeks left to winter since it happen last week. Are you having fun with the snow? How many of you had your winter cold? Just how many pounds of snow did you move? And finally, did you get the wonderful "flu preventing" vaccination? Complete with thimiserol and mercury! Did it work? Just how many times did you get the flu prior to the vaccination as compared to after you started on the yearly regimen?
While you're pondering the answers to those questions, keep in mind that based the study of statistics, you can skew any research to support your belief in any decision you make. Also, let me also say that as a chiropractor practicing in the Parsippany area, my purpose in this blog is to challenge you to think outside the box of traditional medicine. If you do that, I promise that you won't be let down. In addressing this matter, I first want to state that if you seek the truth and find the truth, the truth will set you free.
Let me take you on a short journey back to chiropractic school. Its 1998, and I'm sitting in a microbiology class. The name of the teacher is Dr. Beck. Not only is he a chiropractor but he also has a master's degree in microbiology and biology from Miami University. So here I am in his class paying attention as usual. Not quite sure what the topic was but suddenly appearing in his hand was an article that he brought in from a newspaper. The article went into discussing the benefits and dangers of the "flu vaccination". "People" he said, " there is something you need to know about this particular vaccine"! " The fact of the matter is that the vaccine and especially the way they are going to mass distribute it, from a biological standpoint makes NO practical sense! Why? Because there are thousands of different strands of flu virus every year and unless they have a crystal ball there is no way from a micro-bilogical standpoint for them to determine what strand of flu will be prevalent from year to year. As a result it is my belief, and the belief of other researchers, that the flu vaccination is not only unnecessary but also absurd and can be potentially dangerous"!!!
That was back in 1998. Did you know that before they started giving this vaccine only 10,000 people annually died from the flu? Since TRYING to make the vaccine mandatory there are currently 40,000 people dying per year? My question to you is simply this. Is the flu vaccine working? Did you know that Louis Pasteur, father of the germ theory stated on his death bed that "germs are not the only cause of disease"!? Disease is also based on the strength of the immune system of the host! If you have ever gone away and used a big old Jet plane you may have come home sick after your vacation. Actually, you weren't sick although your body may have been expressing symptoms. My question to you is this: If the "germ theory", with which they base the formation and the distribution of every vaccine is accurate, how come everyone on every flight doesn't get sick? I have yet another more important question: If the "germ theory" is not accurate should we be mass vaccinating every single man, woman, and child and therefore exposing them to very dangerous chemicals that will cause significant illnesses such as Alzheimer's and various forms of cancers long term?
At Selimo Chiropractic, which serves the greater Parsippany area, it is my intention to educate you on the truth about your health and through specific spinal chiropractic adjustments help your body's immune system to function at a higher level. The best thing you can do as far as preventing disease and stay healthy is to make sure your immune system is as functioning as efficiently as it can by eating the right foods, getting at least 7 hours of sleep, and having the white blood cells (leukocytes) boosted naturally with chiropractic adjustments.

Sincerely, Dr. Pat

Medicine Passes The Torch To Chiropractic

What is chiropractic? Well, it originated from the Greek term "Chiroprakticos" which means by the hands only. Also, as an objective straight Parsippany area chiropractor, my main purpose is to remove vertebral subluxations so that the innate intelligence of the body can express itself more fully. Having said that, should I as a chiropractor be correcting vertebral subluxations by increasing the quality of the matter (flesh)? Apparently that is what some chiropractors attempt to do by using therapeutic procedures. It may be possible to accomplish that objective, but that objective is not chiropractic. In fact, it is medicine. It is medicine's objective whether they realize it or not. If people get well (and by well I do not mean temporary relief but TRUE health), it is because DIS-EASE has been corrected. Wellness or health only occurs when the body is receiving a full complement of mental impulses from the innate intelligence of the body. People become asymptomatic for short or long periods of time because the body, in spite of continued nerve interference, can often muster sufficient strength to bring the person back to a higher level of function. But, that is not restoration of health or wholeness. If the spark plug to one of my car cylinders is not firing, I may be able to ride on 5 cylinders but that is not a healthy car. It was designed to run on six.
Medicine can occasionally and usually temporarily increase the quality of the matter. This increase is called treating the diseases. Medicine tries to change the matter. Occasionally, usually by dumb luck, they succeed. When they succeed in changing matter so that the body can restore normal nerve supply by correcting its subluxations, people get well. More often they do not succeed. That has been the reason for the failure of medicine over the centuries and the reason for chiropractic's existence and its success. We do not attempt to change or improve the matter so that it can correct a vertebral subluxation, instead we give the innate intelligence of the body and external invasive force to work with, circumventing its limitations of matter so that it can correct the vertebral subluxation itself. You can take either approach in the restoration of health. Improve the matter so the body can correct its own vertebral subluxation - that's medicine. Or, give the body an innate force it cannot otherwise get so that it can correct the subluxation - that's chiropractic. People will only get well when the restoration of vital mental impulse has occurred. Either method will do it. Chiropractic does it consistently and effectively. Medicine does it occasionally and unintentionally.
The choice is yours. At Selimo Chiropractic, serving the greater Parsippany area, I am committed to doing it consistently and effectively.

CHIROPRACTIC--It's Not About Your Back, It's About Your Life!!

Too often we just do not take advantage of good things that are available to us. We may stay at a hotel and never use the pool or exercise room because we do not have time. We may never use the cruise control on our car because we only drive on local roads. The real tragedy is not taking advantage of something because we just do not know about its advantages. Imagine having a television set that you could turn on and off but having no idea it also had a channel selector. You would never get the maximum enjoyment out of a television with a 181-channel hookup if you did not realize you could get anything more than 10 minutes of C-Span!
Not utilizing its full potential is exactly what some chiropractic patients do. They go to a chiropractor for a back problem and never realize that chiropractic is so much more than a mere treatment for a musculoskeletal problem. When a vertebra becomes subluxated, probably the least important thing is that the back pain may result. It may be important to the person with pain, just as C-Span is important to someone who enjoys that type of programming, but there is a whole lot more to television than that one channel. Likewise there is a lot more to chiropractic than problems with the back. At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, I address the vertebral subluxation which interferes with the vital messages that travel over the nervous system between the brain and every organ, tissue and cell in the body. This interference seriously impairs the body's ability to carry on all its normal and natural functions. The body's chemistry is upset, organ function is affected, resistance is lowered and all coordinated activity is decreased. The digestive system does not work 100%. You cannot think clearly and you can not get all the benefit from your rest and exercise that you should. Even the food that you eat will not be utilized properly by the body if there is nerve interference. When a vertebral subluxation occurs, the body begins to function in an abnormal manner. The individual in this state may be totally unaware of what is happening in his or her body. Unless someone tells them about the benefits of regular chiropractic care, they may never know until it's too late to regain their health. If all you could ever watch on television was C-Span, you could just find other forms of entertainment, like reading a good book. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives to correcting vertebral subluxations and keeping the life channels open so your body's nerve system works at its maximum.
That is why at Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, my philosophy is that it makes sense to have your spine checked on a regular basis and to have vertebral subluxations corrected whenever and wherever they are found.

DRUGS TO TREAT DRUGS!!

An article by syndicated columnist George Will appeared in the editorial section of a local paper. Mr. Will usually has cogent insights into the world and its problems. (He wrote an especially good book on the game of baseball). In this editorial, however, he misses the mark by a mile. He rightly recognizes that the drug problem is overwhelming us and that our Federal Drug Policy has apparently failed to stem the problem. He briefly cites the history of the rise of heroin as a derivative from the 19th-Century medicine, morphine. Here is the solution: The government "should have provided the resources for research to discover chemical compounds that block or reverse the pleasure and addiction-producing effects of drugs." Is that stupid or what? Are we going to vaccinate all the children in the sixth grade and up on a yearly basis with this wonder drug? Or are we going to expect that drug addicts will line up to receive this miracle drug?
We must come to a realization that what causes our problems is not the solution to them. People take drugs because they believe that a temporary quick fix is the answer to their physical, emotional, mental, social and/or spiritual problems. They think that way because the thirty-second television commercial has taught them that drugs are the answer to all their problems.
At Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area, it is my belief that we are not going to resolve the country's drug problem until we all realize that the cause does not come from the outside. It is not in Turkey, China, or Colombia. It is inside certain human beings. Something is lacking in their lives that causes them to seek temporary relief or fulfillment in a drug. A drug that they know deep down inside will eventually harm them or kill them.
Chiropractic does not have all the answers to the drug problem. We do present a philosophy that says do not treat symptoms, do not treat effects but look inside for the cause. If we begin to raise a generation of children who recognize that drugs are not an answer to man's absence of health, perhaps they will also recognize that they are not an answer to man's absence of happiness. If they understand a prescription does not really restore health, they will realize that neither does a quick fix restore happiness. And, at Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area, it is my strong belief that this is where the drug war must begin.

The Role Of Fever (A philosophical explanation)

Hopefully you have read part I and part II of this article. If not, please go back and do so. Having practiced in the Parsippany area for 10 years, I know philosophically that the Innate Intelligence will not elevate the temperature to a point that would be harmful. Does that seem intelligent? But, what temperature is too high?
Well, for one person 104 may be in his or her normal range, for another it may cause convulsions. Just saying "if the practice member is adjusted, his or her body will normalize itself" is not enough. A practice member's body even though in adjustment, may pass that critical point due to limitations of time or matter in spite of the efforts of the innate intelligence to bring it down. I have never heard of a case of a child who was adjusted going into convulsions, but, in theory it is possible. The parent is therefore faced with a decision. Is the child experiencing a beneficial or harmful fever? What is the critical point and has it been passed? Am I interfering with the innate intelligence of the body doing its job? Does the child need emergency first aid measures to bring down the fever? These are difficult questions to answer. It's one thing when it's your own body and you have an awareness of it's needs, but when it is someone else's, especially your little child, the decisions are tough. But then, no one ever said being a parent was easy.
Like most other aspects of health care the key is common sense. At Selimo Chiropractic which serves the greater Parsippany and Whippany area, It is incumbent upon me as the doctor of chiropractic to explain this aspect of chiropractic philosophy to the practice member so that he or she can make a common sense judgement for himself or herself or the small child. Some parents will make mistakes, instituting first aid treatment when the fever is not critical. But, the more people understand the philosophy of chiropractic, the less parents will be interfering with normal bodily functions, particularly in the case of moderate and slight fevers. Most importantly, the more people understand the philosophy of chiropractic, the better off the practice member and their families will be. This will lead to healthier people whose bodies will work optimally and never reach that critical point where emergency intervention is necessary. In turn, the end result will be less medication with dangerous side effects pumped into the body. And this, ultimately, is a very good thing.
Remember, health comes from within. If it came from a bottle, there would not be enough bottles to go around or Trader Joe's or Gym's or Chiropractor's offices etc!!!

The Role Of Fever Part II ( A Philosophical Discussion)

Hello, I'm Dr. Pat Selimo of Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area. As was mentioned in a previous blog, there are two types of fevers. Harmful and beneficial. And, as we learned in part I, the harmful fever is of the type that the body doesn't want or need.
The harmful fever was due to a dysfunction of the fever-regulating mechanism. When the interference was removed the body began to work better and normalized the temperature almost immediately.
The second example is a beneficial fever. The child may not have even needed an adjustment, or, if he or she did need to be adjusted, it did not affect the fever. In this case, the fever runs its course, the little one is perhaps uncomfortable for a while but eventually when the innate intelligence of the body has used the fever to serve its purpose, it will reduce it. I have seen this type of fever at my office, Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area, a few times.
There is a third situation which isn't seen too often. This is the small child who is brought in with no particular symptoms and shortly after an adjustment the child begins to manifest symptoms of being a little sick tyke. The fever regulating mechanism was not working properly, only in this case, that malfunction manifested itself as a lack of fever when one is needed rather than a high fever when one is not called for.
The difficulty is in the parent attempting to determine a beneficial fever from a harmful one. Fever is a symptom. All symptoms are either a manifestation that the body is adapting (the innate intelligence of the body expressing itself with the beneficial fever) or that the body is failing to adapt do to limitations of time and matter (the harmful fever). We know that the innate intelligence will not elevate the temperature to a point that would be harmful. That would not be intelligent. But what temperature is "too high"?
You will have to wait for the conclusion of this three part article to find out the "SECRET".
Caio until next time.

The Role of Fever (A Philosophical Explanation)

The experiments of Dr. Kluger and Bernheim at the Department of Physiology, University of Michigan demonstrate the the value of fever as a bodily defense mechanism. This has been the position of the chiropractor for many years and, at Selimo Chiropractic located in the Parsippany area, I share the same belief as that of Dr. Kluger and Bernheim. However, the fact remains that at times fever can be harmful. It can lead to convulsions and on rare occasions, brain damage. It appears there are two types of fever. For the purpose of this three part article we will refer to them as harmful and beneficial.
In this three part article I will be explaining the types of fevers and the benefits and/or dangers of these fevers. Then I will be informing you on the fallacy of a so called "normal temperature". Lastly, I will explain the vital role chiropractic plays in this and its role in your overall health.
Before I address the types of fever, there is a very important philosophical principle to keep in mind. Each and everyone of us have a built in wisdom that governs and runs the body. This intelligence, known as the "Innate Intelligence" will never do anything to harm the tissues in which it resides. That would not be intelligent and the innate intelligence always functions intelligently. Since the innate intelligence will never do anything to harm the body and since fevers can be harmful, it logically follows that the temperature regulating mechanism is able to dysfunction. The location of the temperature-regulating mechanism and the means by which the dysfunction occurs is not necessary to a philosophical discussion, but it is related directly to nerve interference at the vertebral level. At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, I have experienced adjusting a small, feverish child brought in by a concerned parent and seeing the body normalize its temperature almost immediately. This is a clinical demonstration of the body's ability to regulate itself and do it much better without vertebral subluxation. This was obviously a harmful fever which the body did not want. It was due to a dysfunction of the fever-regulating mechanism. When the interference was removed the body began to work better and normalized the temperature almost immediately.
This is the first type of fever. I will be explaining the beneficial fever in
my next blog.

Why I Do What I Do

At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, I don't mix my profession with others because I choose not to. It is not because I am too stupid to diagnose medical conditions or too lazy too perform medical procedures. It is not because I cannot afford modalities or because some therapeutic procedures are esthetically distasteful to me. It is not because I blindly follow an ideology or worship at the feet of a cult figure. And, it is definitely not because I have never given any thought to the value of non chiropractic procedures.
Quite the contrary. At Selimo Chiropractic, near Parsippany, I practice straight unmixed chiropractic because I have concluded what is the sum total of the practice of the practice of chiropractic. I have not arbitrarily delineated it as such or accepted it as such because B.J. Palmer, developer of chiropractic, said it! No, I have thoroughly investigated, examined, and reasoned out my position. By sound logical thinking I have concluded what my objectives are and have excluded everything outside the practice of chiropractic. I have rejected all else because an understanding of pure chiropractic precludes the usage of procedures that have nothing to do with the principles of Chiropractic.

The Safety Pin Cycle

"A critical element in understanding the necessity of chiropractic care for every man, woman, and child is explained by a model known as the safety pin cycle. The model illustrates, in a very simple way, the vital communication that occurs in the nerve system.

Brain sends signals to tissue cells via one side (known as the efferent side) and tissue cells communicate back with the brain via another pathway (the afferent side). In this manner, your body is constantly communicating with itself.

Unfortunately, this communication can be disrupted by vertebral subluxation, a misaligned spinal bone that disrupts nerve system function. Vertebral subluxations are caused by an inability to adapt to physical, chemical, and emotional stresses that we encounter every day.

The chiropractor's objective is to locate, analyze, and assist in the correction of vertebral subluxations (restoring normal alignment and function of the spine to allow the proper brain-body connection). This helps to ensure that messages are getting through loud and clear."

"Life Changing" New Years Resolution

It's a New Year. Have you set any goals for yourself? For your family? For your "LIFE"? Did you lose that extra 5-10 pounds you promised yourself you would? Why not? Or, did you just step into the gym for a week or a month and then leave, only to return 15 pounds overweight? In other words, did you make a bunch of attainable promises to yourself only to fall short of the mark? You only have one person to blame for that!! NO, it's not Santa Clause!! As if...!
However, don't feel bad because as long as you are still above ground, you have a great opportunity to redeem yourself. With gym memberships more reasonable than ever, you will have a chance to once again set awesome goals for yourself in 2011. The GINORMOUS million dollar question still remains to be answered. Are you inspired enough to do what it takes to reach theses goals? There are people who watch things happen, there are people that talk about whats happened, and then there are those who, as the GREAT philosopher Samuel (Sammy) Selimo would say, will make things happen! Which category will you fall into this year?
Goal setting books always mention setting goals in various areas of life. Financial, personal, relational, spiritual, business/work and health. The intention of the "Monthly Tip" newsletter is to encourage, guide and inspire you to reach the highest level of health possible. At Selimo Chiropractic in Whippany, I am committed to helping you achieve and experience a greater level of health which will have a positive impact on your Life!!! Although I do have goals set for various areas of my life, I can't really determine what these goals should be for you since I know nothing about your personal needs.
Having said that, there is definitely one area that I believe is my moral obligation to elaborate on, inform people of, and ultimately inspire people to make intelligent decisions about. As a chiropractor, I don't only check people's spines for subluxations. It is also my responsibility to educate you on the importance of LIFETIME maintenance care. Did you know at Selimo Chiropractic in Whippany, I see people for what I call LIFE ENHANCEMENT care from 4 days of age all the way up to the ripe age of 72? Why? Simply put, your central nerve system controls everything. That's right!! Every cell, organ, gland and muscle is under direct control of the central nerve system. This system is the most vital system in the body for so many reasons. It's the first one that develops in the human body, it's completely encased in bone and if it is ever injured, never heals. This is extremely important because the expression of life comes through your nerve system. Just how vital is the function of the nerve system? You would have had to ask the late Christopher Reeves that question. Christopher (Superman) Reeves fell off a horse and landed on his second cervical vertebrae and shattered it. The impact was so severe that it severed part of his spinal chord and as a direct result of this injury Mr. Reeves was paralyzed from the neck down for the remainder of his life! Consequently, he had to breathe through a tube, was connected to a ventilator and permanently confined to a wheelchair.
I believe it is of the utmost importance to eat organic raw food (as much as you can), work out on a consistent basis, drink adequate amounts of water, pray and get the proper amount of quality rest. In addition to that, I implore you to get your spine checked by a chiropractor. A straight chiropractor will assess your spine for subluxations and then correct those subluxations so that the wisdom of the body can express itself more fully. This will ultimately result in optimal function and a greater level of health!!! And, optimal function + greater health = A GREATER LIFE EXPRESSION!! Do you think this will help you reach your goals?

Sincerely,
Dr. Pat
