Although on normal occassions I would blog about something pertaining to enhancing your level of awareness with regards to chiropractic, I feel moved to go in a different direction today. You see, back in March, a practice member of mine asked if I would want to set up a booth at the relay for life "cancer walk". Well, being passionate about what I do and always eager to share chiropractic with the world, I jumped at the opportunity. When I showed up, I new right away this would be a great event. However, what I didn't realize was how impactful of a day it would be. First, my practice member Kassie and her husband Scott began to help me immediately set everything up. Around four o'clock a good friend of mine and Mayor of Parsippany kicked things off with a heart wrenching story about how he lost his brother to cancer when he was a kid (6 years old). Shortly after, all the cancer survivors began to walk around the track and received many heart felt applause. Now, you might not think this is such a big deal unless you know a cancer survivor. Nonetheless, I have never seen such an out pouring of love towards absolute strangers from people who know what its like to lose a loved one. The cancer survivors/walkers came from everywhere. I watched as I continued to check people's spines and share the amazing benefits of chiropractic care. This went on for about five hours. Around 9:00pm they had a votive lighting ceremony and another speaker was up at the microphone. She explained how her mom succumed to her battle with cancer and, how her dad was thrust into a Mr. mom position. My heart was wrenched again. Then the song "I will remember you" began to play as we all, (several hundred), walked around the big circle ladden with votives that contained the names of the victims whose lives were destroyed by cancer. Then it really hit me! My father finally lost his battle to prostate cancer last May 23, 2009. And as I walked around looking at those names, I realized that although I thought I was there to check spines, God had a bigger plan. My purpose for being there was to commemorate the one year anniversary of my dad's passing and share in this wonderful thing called "life" with my beautiful friends who have fought the cancer battle and won. God has blessed us with this beautiful thing called "life"! How will you use yours? You can start by sharing with others, in a "selfless act", your support for those who have battled this dreadful disease and won. When they walk past you, smile, clapp and show them that you care. Show them how much you love them and let them know you are there for them. Happy anniversary dad! I love you and miss you very much! It was an honor calling you Dad! Love Pat.

Parents are living longer than their children!!
Is it any wonder that American's health is so awful? Statistics say that soda, french fries, potato chips, hamburgers and chocolate make up 70% of the American diet. As a matter of fact the top ten selling products in grocery stores are: 1-marlboro cigarettes, 2-coke classic, 3-kraft macaroni and cheese, 4-pepsi, 5-diet coke, 6-budweiser beer, 7-cambell's soup, 8-tide detergent, 9-folgers coffee, 10-winston cigarettes. This is not good news! Partly as a result of the S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) and prescription and over-the-counter drug use (especially and including vaccinations), life expectancy in America is lower than many other developed countries. To be exact, we are 30th in life expectancy and, by the middle of this century the increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer is estimated to lower the average life expectancy by 5 years. 67% of America's adults are obese and 30% of the U.S. children are. So, is there a solution to solving this insanity? One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over....and EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS!!! Ever watch a dog chase his tail? How about a hamster on a hamster wheel? For some reason in the US--of--A, we have adopted this mindset that we can abuse our body as much as we deem necessary and, by the time we think about making life changing decisions regarding our health, we have already become pharmceutical pin cushions. Is that health? NO! Solution? First, what we need to do is to recognize that health comes from within. Second, we need to buy and eat real foods: Unprocessed, natural and organic. The more life in food, the more life it will give to you. Third, make sure the nerve system, which governs all human function, is free of subluxations (nerve interference). And last, recognize that its up to you! You are directly responsible for your own health and life and therefore you determine how healthy you will be. One other thing to remember: Chiropractic adds years to your life, and life to your years! http://www.selimochiro.com/index.html

Fever! Is it The Wonder Drug?
Did you know that fever is one of nature's most powerful infection fighting weapons? If it could be bottled and sold it would be a true "wonder drug!" Perhaps equally important, studies show that interfering with (lowering) a fever with drugs such acetaminophen (Tylenol) or aspirin (antipyretics) keeps people sick longer. In one study doctors gave half a group of patients flu aspirin while the other half were permitted to have a fever. The aspirin group with lowered fever stayed sick 31/2 days longer!! The paper concluded: "Antipyretics prolong illness in patients with influenza....The duration was significantly prolonged." In another study, researchers reported that lowering fever increased the death rate. It also stated that "there is no convincing evidence that naturally occurring fevers are harmful. In contrast, animal studies have shown that fever helps animals to survive an infection where as antipyretics (lowering fever) increases mortality. There is also considerable evidence that human immunological defenses function better at febrile (warmer) temperatures than at normal ones." In other words, you and your child can fight infection better when you have a fever!! Fever, is an expression of the Innate Intelligence of the body. When you are subluxated the nervous system chokes off this Innate expression which can result in ill health. Our Health Care System
According to statistics:
-Most people don't have adequate health insurance.
-Drug costs for the elderly are skyrocketing and threatening the entire Medicare system.
-Drug research-Billion dollar industry, and drugs for the treatment of many diseases haven't been researched because its not cost effective.
Jerry Lewis has raised billions for the cure of MS. The result-no cure! The American Heart Association raises billions of dollars every year for heart research, the result:no cure! Also, no cures for cancer, diabetes, heart disease, alzheimers and parkinsons either despite billions spent. Yet, new diseases like AIDS and SARS keep popping up! Are we moving backwards? Its not the practice of medicine that is the problem. It is the false principle that we can take things from outside the body and correct all problems inside the body. Wrong!! Instead of finding cures to treat life threatening diseases, which does not work, we need to build health in people or find reasons why people are healthy. http://www.selimochiro.com/index.html

Chiropractic and Sports Injuries
What does Chiropractic have to do with sports related injuries? Well, in its purest form, absolutely nothing! However, there is something you should definetely know. Tiger Woods, Andy Roddick, Lance Armstrong and oodles of professional athletes in just about every sport, use chiropractic. Why? They achieve better balance, improved coordination, faster recovery from injury, prevention of injuries, more energy and strength, among other benefits-all without drugs! More professional athletes use chiropractic than ever before. The journal "Chiropractic Economics" reported that over 95% of teams in the NFL use chiropractors as a regular part of player care.
Barry Bonds, arguably one of the best all-time baseball players, had a personal Chiropractor who would travel to games with him. Bonds reportedly said, " I think it should be mandatory to see a chiropractor." Get your spine checked today!! Check out my website for more details. Sincerely, Dr. Pat

Chiropractors and Subluxations
A subluxation is a distortion in your body structure that causes damage to your spine, muscles, joints, nerves, discs and other tissues and organs. Whats worse is that subluxations interfere with your overall body function, your balance, energy level, healing ability and physical and mental well-being. Subluxations can occur at any age. Many even occur at birth due to the stress of delivery. Subluxations can result from falls, accidents, poor sleeping positions and overwork. Even emotional stress and environmental toxins can shock your body into developing subluxations.
At Selimo Chiropractic, we provide a wonderful service. We locate and correct (adjust) subluxations, removing stress from your body and mind, unleashing energy, restoring balance and permitting you to live your life closer to your physical and mental potential. When you have subluxations it's as if you are living life with the parking break on.
Do you have a subluxation in your body? Unless you are seeing a chiropractor for periodic checkups, the answer is probably yes. http://www.selimochiro.com/index.html
