Who's a Body to Believe?

An article in the Philadelphia Inquirer (1-9-95 page G-1), questioned the wisdom of giving over-the-counter (OTC) drugs to children. Even though Americans spend 3 billion dollars a year on cough and cold medicines, their effectiveness and safety are being challenged by physicians. A Bryn Mawyr physician scientifically disputed the claims made by Robitussin, Sudafed, Dimetap, Vicks, Ny-Quill, and others. And wouldn't you know it, the article also stated that "In some cases, these drugs may actually cause potentially dangerous side effects in young children, who can catch up to a dozen colds a year." Surprise surprise!!!
Things are even worse in the disease-screening and disease-prevention areas. The National Cancer Institute had recommended against mammography for women under 50. Further, there was no evidence that it benefits women over 65. In a report in their Journal, not something that I have contrived, the results of screening 1,000 women resulted in the following:
-30% received false negative results (test would fail to detect cancer)
-37.8% would receive false positive results(test would show cancer where none existed).
Some authorities feel that the benefits to the 50-60 age group is very small and the high false positives make the overall value of the test nil. I don't want to inundate you with statistics, but, an article in the journal, Circulation, concluded that there is no association between high blood cholesterol and cardiovascular death in women. Authorities disagree on these issues, so, who do you believe? It seems that, rather than put our faith in an authority which will be proved wrong tomorrow, we need to use common sense and reason.
At Selimo Chiropractic in Whippany, Chiropractic adjustments make sense to a person who reasons that living his or her life with a good nerve supply is better than living life with a nervous system carrying interference due to vertebral subluxations. You do not need an authority or a scientific study to tell you that. At Selimo Chiropractic I want you to accept chiropractic care for your health, not based upon faith in me or some scientific study which can be repudiated tomorrow, but because it makes sense to your reasonable mind.
At Selimo Chiropractic in Whippany, I believe it should be: Chiropractic first, medications second and surgery last.

The "ORCHESTRA" of LIFE!!

Have you ever seen a live orchestra perform? If you have then you will have an easy time relating to this easy yet very important concept. An orchestra, as you know, consists of several different sections. The sections are as follows: String, brass, percussion and the woodstring. What we have to realize is that the instruments don't all play as loud as they want to, or, whenever they want to. I know, amazing isn't it? You see there is actually a person who leads these instruments and lets them know when they should be playing. This person is called the "conductor". His responsibility is to lead each individual section and let them know the volume at which to play and the timing. Just imagine if during a performance, every time the percussion section was supposed to play, you heard the brass section blast off. Or, how about while you were listening to the woodwind section, they just stopped playing. How would the overall performance sound? Would you want your money back?
What does this have to do with your health? Maybe the more important question to ask is, what does this have to do with your LIFE? Just this. Think of the conductor as your brain and central nerve system. The nerve system controls and coordinates all functions of the human body. Think of all your organs, cells, muscles and glands as all the instruments of the human body. Each has an important role in the overall function within the body. Right? The million dollar question we need to ponder is this! Do any of your organs perform any of their functions without being told to do so by the conductor (brain & nerve system) of the body? Survey said!!! NO!!! Also, the definition of health according to Grays Anatomy is: 100% function of all cells, organs, glands and muscles. Not convinced?!! Ok. Ever hear of a "Nerve-Ectomy"?!!! No!!! And guess what? You never will. A nerve-ectomy is the removal of the nerve system. If they removed your nerve system, you would die.
At Selimo Chiropractic, located in the Parsippany area, I am a dedicated professional. My concern and promise to you is that your nerve system will be working at the optimal level of functionality. This will enhance your human experience in ways you couldn't imagine. So what are you waiting for. Come in today for a FREE consultation.

Dr. Pat Selimo
